Yorkshire travel to Nottingham this Friday for their second game of the new campaign and Lowes says the players are in determined mood after the first hit out of the season.

He commented, “We have got a short turn around this week with the game at Nottingham on Friday night and that is probably good for us after last week’s loss at Scottish. We put that game to bed at the start of the week. We were rusty in the first half and didn’t capitalise on some good field position. We have the chance to get things sorted and get back out there on Friday night.”

Lowes’ pre-season plans were hit by injuries to his squad, particularly in the front row, however he says the effort from the players last week was a sign of positive times ahead. He added,  “All you ask as a coach is for the players to go out there and put into practise what you have been working on all pre-season and I thought we did that on Saturday against Scottish. We tried some things and I can not fault the players for their efforts but our execution wasn’t good enough and they know that. Having said that, I have every confidence that they will be better for having that eighty minutes under their belts now.”

In contrast, Nottingham had a bonus point win over Rotherham on the opening weekend and are top of the table after the first round. Lowes says his side are aware of the size of task in front of them. He added, “Nottingham were a tough side to beat last season and it is always a tough place to go because the ground is very open. We need to be far better than we were last week to compete with them. They had a big win last week and will be full of confidence but we are focused on ourselves and improving our game.”
