Yorkshire Carnegie Community Department are seeking an enthusiastic Community Programme Manager to facilitate the delivery and growth of its community delivery.

This full time role will be a key position within the Yorkshire Carnegie Community Department, the programme manager will oversee the planning and delivery of the Project Rugby programme and will contribute to the wider community programme.

Reporting to the Head of Community, the primary responsibilities of the role will be:

To coordinate and manage the Project Rugby investment from Premiership Rugby, including:

  • ensuring successful engagement and retention of underrepresented groups and encourage transition into grassroots clubs
  • lead the overall development and delivery of the Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby proposal in line with Project Rugby National priorities

Key to the success of the role will be the promotion of consistent values and messages and a professionally delivered product.

The successful candidate will also be a positive and effective communicator, possess a ‘can-do’ attitude and be enthusiastic and dynamic in their actions and be willing to go the ‘extra mile’. Will also enjoy building and developing relationships across a wide spectrum of stakeholders and will be a champion for Yorkshire Carnegie at all times.

The hours of work throughout the year will average 40 hours per week and given the nature of the role will include weekend and evenings. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months initially, any additional term is subject to funding.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for:

  • Managing the day to day delivery of the programme including managing all coaches and volunteers working on the Project Rugby programme.
  • Establishing effective path ways to engage and transition underrepresented young people into long term rugby participation
  • Forming partnerships with local and national organisations providing pathways into long term rugby participation
  • Increasing participation in rugby in BAME, low socio-economic communities and amongst disabled people.
  • Working in partnership with the Rugby Football Union Area Manager and Rugby Development Officer to ensure that Project Rugby aligns with local priorities
  • Ensure the effective collation and communication of key information relating to Project Rugby including marketing and communications
  • Working with the Head of Community to ensure delivery of the programme’s KPI’s within budget and time period.
  • This will include:
    • Leading on timely, well written reporting.
    • Maintaining financial records in line with the funder’s reporting requirements.
    • Managing relationships with community clubs, schools and other stakeholders including Premiership Rugby and the Rugby Football Union.
    • Liaising with the internal and external communications teams to ensure the programme receives appropriate media coverage.
  • Assist with additional Yorkshire Carnegie Community events and programmes as required.
  • Deliver high quality coaching sessions in club, associated cluster schools and community groups.

Person Specification

  • Have proven experience and expertise in programme management, preferably in a sporting environment.
  • Have experience of working in a similar organisation
  • RFU/IRB Level 2 Qualified Coach
  • Possess a good knowledge of the clubs and schools in the Yorkshire Region and good relationships with key stakeholders in the Yorkshire Rugby landscape.
  • Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to multi-task and to remain calm under pressure.
  • Possess strong communication, written and verbal skills.
  • Be confident, proactive and positive with the willingness to accept responsibility.
  • Have the ability to work as part of a close-knit team.
  • Be motivated and proactive with the ability to meet deadlines.
