This Saturday Yorkshire Carnegie host London Scottish at Emerald Headingley in the final game of this season’s Greene King IPA Championship but already plans for the start of next season are being completed.

Following a string of new signings this week, the club have now confirmed that five members of the current forward pack have agreed new deals with the club.

Props Marc Thomas and James Thraves are joined by hooker Joe Buckle in committing their future to the club whilst long standing squad members Matt Smith and Mike Myerscough  have all agreed new contracts for the 2018-19 season.

Myerscough and Smith both joined Yorkshire Carnegie in 2012 from Cornish Pirates and will start their seventh campaign with the club next season. Cornishman Myerscough has made 91 appearances for the club whilst Smith, who is originally from Halifax, has now amassed 125 appearances since 2012 in all competitions.

Director of Rugby Chris Stirling commented, “A key part of our squad building for next season was to retain those players within our current squad who we believe can give us an edge next season in a very competitive Greene King IPA Championship. That is particular true in our forwards. Having already announced new deals with Richard Mayhew and Richard Beck, we are delighted to have agreed new deals with all five of these players. Both Marc and Joe were highly sought after by other clubs and we are pleased that they are keen to continue the journey with Yorkshire Carnegie after their first season at Emerald Headingley.

“Mike Myerscough and Matt Smith are long serving members of our squad and have shown all the attributes we are looking for, both on and off the pitch, for our group moving forward and it is pleasing that they will remain with us next season,” added Stirling.
