Job Description
Yorkshire Carnegie wish to recruit a full time Academy Lead Physiotherapist to manage the physiotherapy provision for the academy squads. This role is offered on an initial 2-year fixed term basis.

This role is fundamental to providing the senior academy and senior EAP players an excellent medical support provision that is fully integrated with an outstanding strength and conditioning programme to ensure that all players have robust athletic foundations to build upon and remain injury free.

An important element of the role will be to provide leadership to the academy physio team and management of the other FT and PT academy physios within the club, with key partners & satellite delivery centres. This will include leading on staff appraisals, creating regular CPD opportunities and developing the physiotherapy workforce.

The post holder will have excellent clinical knowledge, experience and a proven ability to work independently in managing an elite rugby caseload.

The role requires a strong understanding of player development principles, a strong on field presence, and the capacity to work with staff and support services to oversee effective delivery of a robust physiotherapy provision to support individuals within the pathway as well as the transition of players from the JDS to the Junior and then Senior Academy and up to the Senior squad.

Key elements of the Academy provision are to Provide/arrange cover for all Academy competition match days; Provide/arrange cover and clinical appointments at all academy training events as per a pre-arranged training schedule; Alongside the Academy Manager, ensure that appropriate standards of medical/physio cover is available for all ERDPP events; Ensure availability of medical clinic appointments for Academy players to suit varying needs across different playing/training groups; Assess all Yorkshire Carnegie RFU Academy injuries and implement a structured treatment and rehabilitation plan in relation to the diagnosis and specific individual player’s needs; and input into all relevant case conferencing meetings on players.

Through the changing landscape of the Yorkshire Carnegie medical structure this role will require close liaison with Head of physiotherapy and rehab, around physio governance and clinical decision making as well as regular knowledge sharing and liaison on Yorkshire Carnegie RFU Academy squad players programmes to minimise the risk of injury, improve durability, recovery and performance.

In conjunction with the Academy Manager and Coaches, this person will assist in the designing and implementation of an age appropriate programme of education around injury prevention and understating, human performance and physical development. In addition, the successful candidate will assist the academy manager with the management of all academy systems and developments aligned to the vision and strategic plans of Yorkshire Carnegie Academy.

The successful candidate will:
·      Have at least 3 years post-graduate experience, being able to demonstrate a strong sport focused career pathway,

·      Hold HPC and CSP registration. A PITCC or IMMOF qualifications would be desirable

·      Have proven experience in leading a team of physiotherapists.

·      Have a commitment to CPD and attend all relevant RFU Trauma Courses annually as required.

The successful candidate will also be a positive and effective communicator, possess a ‘can-do’ attitude and be enthusiastic and dynamic in their actions and be willing to go the ‘extra mile’. Will also enjoy building and developing relationships across a wide spectrum of stake holders and will be a champion for the Academy at all times.

The hours of work throughout the year will be dictated by the required training schedule and clinical caseload that will overall average 40 hours per week, given the nature of the role this will include weekend and evenings.
