Yorkshire Carnegie Academy players Harry Newborn and Elliott Ward will both feature for Leeds Beckett University against the University of Leeds in the annual Varsity game at Headingley Carnegie on Wednesday 4th October.

The Leeds Varsity is an inter-university sports varsity between arch rivals University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University and begins in January with events throughout the year and finishes with the finals day in October, with 60 fixtures across 25 different sports.

The event culminates with the Men’s Rugby Union Grand Finale at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in the evening, which has attracted a sell-out crowd this year.

Newborn played for Beckett last year in the BUCS Super Rugby Competition and he has been joined this season by former QEGS pupil Ward.  The pair will be hoping to help their University back to winning ways in the Varsity game, having lost 32-31 to the University last year in a closely fought game, having dominated the competition in previous years.

Tonight’s game is sold out but you can watch a live stream via the Varsity Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/284853742000662/
