The Academy Manager role is a key position within Yorkshire Carnegie, with direct responsibility for the strategic direction of the academy and management of the academy systems and staff.

The role requires recommendations to be made to the club about the academy system in Yorkshire and to present short, medium-term and long-term strategic plans on a systematic basis.

The Academy Manager will work across all levels of the player and coach pathway in Yorkshire, reporting to the Clubs Executive President.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day academy operations and provide management of staff, programmes and players across the regional academy programme.
  • Ensure that Yorkshire Carnegie Academy delivery model provides an effective talent pathway from the community game to the talent pathway and professional game; maintaining the ‘satellite’ development model to include all stakeholders, and each sub-region of the county
  • Manage the overall process governance and reporting aligned to the annual RFU Academy Review, to include evidence collection and management of staff and systems
  • Ensure effective relationships and dialogue is maintained with the RFU Head of Academies, and Premiership Rugby Head of Academies & Development
  • Manage the academy budget in conjunction with the club Financial Controller; to include budget planning, monitoring and reporting
  • Make recommendations for appropriate academy staffing structures and alongside the Director of Rugby, establish projections for staffing levels that will support growth and increased efficiency of the academy systems
  • Manage the contracting of academy players and staff, in coordination with the Player Development Manager and Director of Rugby
  • Oversee the development and management of all academy structures and feeder systems that identify playing talent in the county within existing club, school and development pathways
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Leeds Beckett University with key academic and management staff members
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with all schools, parents and coaches, delivering regular stakeholder presentations and stakeholder workshops.
  • Ensure alignment and progression from DPP to EPDG through to Senior Academy Programme; establishing a Player Development Group (PDG) system for U15 to U18 players that provides the required support and services for the development of potential elite performers

You will have strong leadership and development skills to enable you to coach the existing high performing academy team. You will have effective written and verbal communication skills enabling you to present strategic information to varying audiences including external partners and players.

This is a full time role and the salary for the role will be dependent on your skills, experience and qualifications.

The role is based at Kirkstall Training Ground, Clarence Fields, Bridge Road, Kirkstall, LS5 3BW.
