On 1st June Headingley Carnegie will host a special 20th Anniversary Lions Lunch to celebrate the victorious 1997 Lions tour to South Africa.
Special guests at the dinner will be three people who are synonymous with the tour, Sir Ian McGeechan, John Bentley and Jeremy Guscott. McGeechan was the head coach for the winning tour, Bentley scored one of the greatest individual tries in Lions history and Guscott landed the winning drop goal during the decisive second test.
Speaking about the dinner, Bentley said: “This will be a fantastic occasion to commemorate the 1997 Lions Tour, which was special in many ways. It was the tour that embraced the amateur game and the turning of professionalism and embodied what was great about the two periods. Heading into the tour we were not given a chance, they were the reigning World Champions and we had been written off but went onto become only the fourth touring Lions side to win a Test. I am looking forward to welcoming Jeremy to Headingley Carnegie and, along with Sir Ian McGeechan, sharing our memories of the tour with the guests.”
The three-course lunch will be hosted in the Long Bar and cost £600 (plus VAT) for a table of ten. To book your place call the sales team on 0113 2033222.
