Yorkshire Carnegie have signed second row Ben West and full back or winger Chris Elder, both 24, from London Welsh with both set to make their debuts for the club in the Greene King IPA Championship clash at Nottingham on Boxing Day.

Chris Elder has previously played at Plymouth Albion, Esher and Wasps and has signed for the remainder of the 2016-17 season. Last season, Elder crossed five times in twenty Championship appearances, including a match winning score in the Exiles’ league victory at Headingley Carnegie. The full back joined Welsh in 2014 and played in the Aviva Premiership with the Exiles, including a try on his Premiership debut against Wasps, the club where he came through the academy system.

Second row Ben West has joined on an eighteen month contract to include this season and the 2017-18 campaign. He has made over 50 league appearances for Welsh and also played in the Premiership with them alongside Yorkshire Carnegie second rower Dean Schofield. He joined London Welsh in the summer of 2013 after two seasons in National League 1 at Cinderford, having previously played at Newbury.

In early 2013 he also helped England Counties regain the inaugural Jean Claude Baque trophy for the first time since 2009, with a 27-7 win over France Federale in the same team as new Carnegie team mate Ollie Stedman and Chris Elder.

Commenting on the signings Yorkshire Carnegie Head Coach Bryan Redpath said, “We are delighted to have secured two players who have a great deal of experience in the Championship. Chris was a thorn in our side last year so we know exactly what he can do whilst Ben is well known to a number of our players who have spoken highly of him. Both will feature on Boxing Day at Nottingham and they have fitted in really well this week in training.”
