Job Description
Yorkshire Carnegie wish to recruit a full time Academy Performance Coach to work with the Academy Teams. This is a new role and is offered on an initial 2 year fixed term basis. 
 
This role will be a key position within the Yorkshire Carnegie Regional Academy, the Performance coach will oversee the planning and delivery of player development programme for the Junior Academy, and will contribute to the design and delivery of Player Development Group sessions for U15 to U18 players.
The role requires a strong understanding of player development principles, a strong on field coaching presence, and the capacity to work with staff and support services to oversee effective delivery of individual development plans, and the transition of players from the JDS to the Academy and up to the Senior squad.

Reporting to the Academy Manager (players), the primary responsibilities of the role will be to take a lead on the rugby development of the U18 Academy players and manage this group of players in their on and off field development. In addition this role will support the U16 academy coaching programme to provide consistency in delivery between the two groups and comfortable transition between the two groups.
This person will also support the ERDPP satellite delivery programme and provide specialist backs coaching support as appropriate across all academy programmes.
 
In support of the players within the U18 this role will see this person, in conjunction with the Academy Staff, develop effective relationships with a network of schools (independent and state sector), clubs and county teams ensuring excellent communication lines are established and subsequently maintained as well as observe fixtures to deliver feedback to PDG players.
 
In conjunction with the Academy Managers, design and implement an age appropriate Academy skill curriculum to incorporate core skills, position specific skills and game understanding and assist the academy managers with the management of all academy systems and developments aligned to the vision and strategic plans of Yorkshire Carnegie Academy ?
 
The successful candidate
 

  • Will be an RFU/IRB Level 3 Qualified Coach, or working towards L3.
  • Have proven experience and expertise in identifying, nurturing and developing adolescent potential elite talent 
  • Proven experience of delivering coaching to adolescent athletes and of managing and assisting their technical, tactical and mental development 

The successful candidate will also be a positive and effective communicator, possess a ‘can-do’ attitude and be enthusiastic and dynamic in their actions and be willing to go the ‘extra mile’. Will also enjoy building and developing relationships across a wide spectrum of stake holders and will be a champion for the Academy at all times. 

The hours of work throughout the year will average 40 hours per week and given the nature of the role will include weekend and evenings.

Job Description
Yorkshire Carnegie wish to recruit a full time Academy Coach Development Officer to work with the Academy. This is a new role and is offered on an initial 2 year fixed term basis. The Academy Coach Development Officer will be an important member of the Academy Staff, with responsibilities to develop the coach and player development pathway across Yorkshire.
The Academy Coach Development Officer will ensure that opportunities exist for Yorkshire based Coaches to develop their skills, knowledge and attributes and have a pathway to progress themselves within the academy structure, supporting the development of players within the game as future Academy, Premiership and international players.

Reporting to the Academy Manager (programmes & pathways), the primary responsibilities of the role will be to oversee the design and dissemination of a range of coach development initiatives, in line with national RFU initiatives and Yorkshire Carnegie’s vison, facilitate coach-engagement opportunities within both the academy programmes, and the player development community across Yorkshire.
 
This person will actively support the delivery of the coaching programmes for Yorkshire Carnegie’s U16 and U15 Player Development Groups as well as ERDPP coaching groups with a view to providing specialist coaching support as appropriate (in line with specific coaching specialism) across all academy programmes.
 
As part of an ongoing coach development initiative this role will manage a group of professional coaches and volunteers to support the delivery of a wide-reaching and professionally delivered regional ERDPP programme. In consultation with the Regional player pathway group and with the expertise of the Leeds Beckett CARR project help to plan, deliver and promote a series of coach development events. The focus group will be coaches within the ERDPP and PDG programmes as well as identified School, Club, and CB coaches within the region. This should ensure a consistent ‘pipeline’ of coaches for the succession of both full-time and voluntary coaching roles within the Regional Academy.
 
Help to plan and promote a series of position specific coach and player development events across the county and work closely with the RFU Elite Coach Development Staff, identify the content and principles of the needs of coaches within the Yorkshire coaching community and lead the design and delivery of the regional academy coach development strategy for Yorkshire Carnegie and Yorkshire RFU.
 
In conjunction with the Academy Managers, design and implement an age appropriate Academy skill curriculum to incorporate core skills, position specific skills and game understanding and assist the academy managers with the management of all academy systems and developments aligned to the vision and strategic plans of Yorkshire Carnegie Academy.
 
The successful candidate
 

  • Will be an RFU/IRB Level 3 Qualified Coach, preferably working towards level 4 
  • Coach educator qualified and a student in ‘up to date’ coaching techniques and research
  • Have proven experience and expertise in identifying, nurturing and developing adolescent potential elite talent 

The successful candidate will also be a positive and effective communicator, possess a ‘can-do’ attitude and be enthusiastic and dynamic in their actions and be willing to go the ‘extra mile’. Will also enjoy building and developing relationships across a wide spectrum of stake holders and will be a champion for the Academy at all times. Act as an ambassador for coaching and promote excellent coaching every time for every player and promote club and RFU Core Values.
