Yorkshire Carnegie hooker Phil Nilsen is hoping to put his injury behind him to play in his first pre-season game this Saturday against Leicester Lions at Harrogate RUFC.

Nilsen, has been ruled out of the first two pre-season friendlies after picking up a knee infection during the training camp at St Andrews. He re-joined the team at training this week and is looking forward to being back involved.

“It’s been a good pre-season and it’s been tough,” said Nilsen. “They have pushed us fitness wise in the weights and we have done a lot of rugby as well.  Personally it was good for me until we got up to camp and half way through I picked up an injury in my knee so I have been out for about three or four weeks but I am back in full training this week.

“It’s been good to work with Steve Boden who has come in this season, I have known him for a while as I played with him in the Academy and it’s good to catch up with him again.  He has brought in some good stuff and there is no place to hide for the forwards, he is the first to say when we have done something wrong and the first to praise when we have done something well so it’s a good environment to work in.

“Hopefully I will be involved in the side this week against Leicester Lions and then hopefully I will get a run out in the first game of the season."
