Yorkshire Carnegie Forwards Coach Dave Baldwin will take up a new position as Rugby Manager from next season with Steve Boden returning to the club as the new Forwards Coach from Greene King IPA Championship rivals Jersey.
The Ilkley-born former second row has been Forwards Coach at the club for the past five seasons having moved to Leeds from being Head Coach at Preston Grasshoppers in 2012. Prior to that he was Head Coach at Fylde, Manchester and England Counties for six years. He started his playing career in Yorkshire with Bramley and Wakefield and then went on to make over 300 appearances with Sale Sharks.
During his time on the coaching staff, Carnegie have reached two British & Irish Cup Finals and reached the play offs in three out of five seasons. Commenting on this new role from next season, Baldwin said, “I am stepping down as Forwards Coach to take up a new role as Rugby Manager and it is something that I am looking forward to. Myself and Bryan Redpath spoke about a management role last season but it was felt having stability within the coaching group would help the side for the new campaign and the plan was put on hold until now. This season has been thoroughly enjoyable working with a great set of forwards and it is by no means done yet. In my new role I am looking forward to working with the coaching and playing groups to drive the club forward in my new role. I would like to thank all the players and coaches I have had the privilege to work with over the years and I know we will be doing everything within our powers to make sure this season finishes on a high.”
Head Coach Bryan Redpath added, “I would like to thank Dave for all his efforts as Forwards Coach during my time at the club and before that. I am pleased he is staying with the club in a vital role within our rugby department given the experience he has in the game and this group of players. We have been able to secure one of the most highly regarded forwards coaches in the Championship in Steve Boden. We were made aware that Steve was looking to move back to Yorkshire and he was available and, having assessed his credentials, we are delighted to have him on board.”
Boden started his career in the Academy at Leeds before a spell at Hull Ionians earned him a move to Doncaster Knights. A mainstay at Castle Park from 2005 until 2012, he made 188 appearances before moving to the Channel Islands. He has been with Jersey for the past four seasons initially playing and then joining the coaching staff when he was forced to retire through injury.
