The Headingley Carnegie groundstaff received recognition from their peers in the industry as they were named the top groundsteam in Rugby League and were runners up for four other awards.
The IOG industry-wide Annual Awards, which recognise the important contribution made by groundscare staff in raising industry standards and encouraging greater professionalism within the industry.
The groundstaff team, which is headed up by head groundsman Ryan Golding, look after the main pitch at Headingley Carnegie which both Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie play on, and the training pitches at Kirkstall.
Assistant Head Groundsman, Lewis Pattinson, was runner up for Toro Most Promising Sports Turf Student of the Year finalists and IOG Rigby Taylor/Top Green Young Groundsman of the Year. Lewis has worked for Leeds Rugby since 2011 and this year has earned Team Leadership qualifications and his NVQ Level 3.
The team are recognised in both Rugby League and Rugby Union categories, with nominations for IOG Kubota Professional Rugby Union Grounds Team of the Year, but missed out to BT Murrayfield, whose head groundsman was also named Groundsperson of the Year such was the level of competition the Headingley Carnegie team were up against.
The Awards' judging process recognised achievement, innovation and fresh thinking as well as examples of best practice from the leaders in the world of groundsmanship.
