Headingley Carnegie Stadium will host a double header of Rugby Union and Rugby League action on Friday 14th August as part of the stadium’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

The stadium hosted its first rugby game on 20th September 1890, five years before the split in the codes of rugby. On Friday 14th August, Yorkshire Carnegie will host international side Romania as they prepare for the Rugby Union World Cup in England, kick off 5.30pm, before Leeds Rhinos take on Wigan Warriors in the massive Super League Super 8s clash, kick off 8pm.

Romania are currently ranked 17th in the world rankings and have competed in all seven World Cups since 1987. They are in the same group as France, Ireland, Italy and Canada, the latter two meet at Leeds United’s Elland Road in the World Cup.

Yorkshire Carnegie fans will also get to see new signing Kevin Sinfield in action as he leads the Rhinos against Wigan before switching codes at the end of the Super League season.

Yorkshire Carnegie fans will get to see Bryan Redpath’s side for the first time ahead of the 2015-16 season and the ticket price for the game covers both matches. Yorkshire Carnegie members for the 2015-16 season will receive an email with a promotion code to buy their own tickets for the game at a discounted rate at £15 for adults, £10 for concessions (seniors over 65, students and under 21s) and £5 for juniors (16 and under). Prices for non-members start from £20 for adults and £10 for juniors if purchased before midnight on Thursday 13th August. Prices increase by £2 if purchased on the day.

Looking ahead to the game, Yorkshire Carnegie Head Coach Bryan Redpath said, “We are honoured to welcome Romania to Headingley Carnegie. For any club side to host an international team is a real privilege and it is particularly special that the game will be part of the stadium’s 125th anniversary. I hope some of the Rhinos fans are able to come down early and see what we are about for the new season and I am sure our own supporters will be keen to see the progress we have made since the end of last season as well as stopping on afterwards to cheer Kevin and the Rhinos on.”
