Yorkshire Carnegie Head Coach Bryan Redpath said the signing of Kevin Sinfield from Leeds Rhinos was a big statement and was a further indication of the club’s ambition.

Speaking after the announcement Redpath said he is looking forward to working with the former England Rugby League captain: “I’m delighted that we have announced Kevin Sinfield will be joining us.  It’s a huge statement for everyone.  He’s excited about playing Rugby Union and learning the game, he understands how tough it is, he’s not naïve and I think he said in his press conference that he has been a follower of both codes for a long time.  For us it’s a big statement for the young players and everyone involved at the club and for me to coach someone like Kev is special too.

“His natural kicking game and goal kicking as well as his ability to play with the ball is obviously hugely important for us, whether it be at 10 or 12.  He is going to get some pressure on him but he has had that all his life so we just need to translate that into the Union element of the game.  I can only see him as a huge asset to us.”
