The Yorkshire Carnegie Academy are pleased to announce that seven players have been selected for the North of England Under 16s Squad.

These players will now train together before representing the North at the Wellington International Festival at Easter. Following the Wellington Festival players will be selected for England Under 16s vs Wales.

The County Under 16 programme started in August when their trial took place at the Yorkshire Carnegie’s Kirkstall Training Ground with support from Senior Academy and First Team players. The Yorkshire Squad then trained throughout September before playing three weekends in a row in October and November, winning two from three. As the scores suggest the players were committed to playing an attractive brand of attacking rugby.

Yorkshire 24 v Lancashire 5
Yorkshire 39 v C.N.D. 12
Yorkshire 22 v Cheshire 72

Following the County programme seventeen Yorkshire players were selected for the North U16’s Squad Confirmation Day at Sedbergh School, where the players were involved in a mixture of skills practices and games.

All seven players selected for the North Squad have been working on a weekly basis with the Yorkshire Carnegie Junior Development Squad since the start of pre season in June. Selection for those players is a fantastic reward for their efforts and will provide them with a great opportunity that they will really enjoy.
Credit should also be given to the nine players not selected this time who represented themselves the Academy and the County very well in a very challenging North group.
